Parents Who Pray

Adapted from Stormie Omartian, The Power of a Praying Parent

Pour out your heart like water before the face of the Lord.

Lift your hands toward Him for the life of your young children.  (Lamentations 2:19)

“My mom has been a great mother to me.  She encourages me and tries to help me with everything.  I am very thankful for her prayers and love.  She prays for me daily and I think that is one of the reasons I make it through school and life…because of them, I am alive on this earth…Mom’s praying worked…even when our prayers aren’t answered right away, just praying or being prayed for makes me feel better.  I am thankful for God and my mother.  Thank you, Mom.”

-          Amanda Omartian, 13 years old, daughter of author Stormie Omartian, in Forward to The Power of a Praying Parent

“…But one of the many wonderful qualities my parents possess, the one that I respect most is their persistence in prayer for me and my sister in our everyday lives…I am eternally grateful to my parents their persistence in praying over my life.”

-         Christopher Omartian, 18 years old, son of author Stormie Omartian, in Forward to The Power of a Praying Parent

Hints and Tips from The Power of a Praying Parent

1.       Start from the time they are conceived (Ps 139; Ps 147:13)

2.       Create an extensive, personalized list per child in your prayer journal.

3.       Use God’s word as your weapon – and appropriate it for your prayers (Jn 14:13-14, Eph 6:17-18, Heb 4:12)

4.       God’s word will not return void – it is NEVER ineffectual or without fruit (Is 55:11)

5.       Discipline them, guide them, help them learn how make godly choices (Prov 22:6; Eph 6:4)

6.      Remember that it’s not the perfect parent that makes the difference in the life of a child – it’s the praying parent.  That’s something we can ALL be.
